Retirement from Recruitment

07 Dec 2021

After 35 years in recruitment and 32 years as Director of Match Recruitment Services I am retiring at the end of 2021.

Any recruitment still in hand will be followed through to conclusion with a cessation from 2022.

UK - May 2021

07 May 2021

With lockdown restrictions finally easing, Covid-19 cases and deaths falling and the success of the vaccination programme throughout the UK, it finally feels as though normality is returning.

Lockdown - January 2021

08 Jan 2021

Despite a further lockdown, there does appear to be more economic activity than through the first lockdown, perhaps as we adjust to the new normal of living through a pandemic.

We have new instructions coming in and expect this to build as we normally see in January.  Perhaps with Brexit behind us and a vaccination program underway we may see some really positive change towards the spring.

After Lockdown

05 Jun 2020

As we emerge from lockdown, it has been interesting to observe the various ways in which different businesses have been affected and have adapted.  We’re now seeing some recruitment activity again and have confirmed new starters this month.  Some businesses are on track and staff are fully employed at home. Others, may need to restructure and make redundancies; others are looking to bring furloughed workers back and coordinate new patterns of work within the office and some will be looking to recruit again!

Coronavirus - Recruitment Update

18 Mar 2020

We are now seeing the impact of the coronavirus on recruitment.  Priorities for hiring companies are considerable, from grappling with the obvious challenges of keeping their businesses running; re-scheduling events, handling a fall in demand for goods and services or a shortage of supplies through to various commercial liabilities. Fulfilling government guidelines for organising home working for staff, or rotation working to allow a safe space between employees in the office is also taking time to organise. This is before any impact is fully felt on income and cashflow.   Similarly, the priority for most people will be to keep their families safe, work re-organised and bills paid.

Under these exceptional circumstances recruiting new staff is less of a priority and so we have checked with our clients which roles they are continuing to recruit for and posted new dates for active job vacancies of 18 March. As an extra precaution, all candidates will be interviewed (at least at first stage) via phone or a video call, initially from Match Recruitment and then the hiring organisation.

Recruitment update - March 2020

06 Mar 2020

In February, we saw an up-turn in recruitment after a slow start to the year.  Economic uncertainty exacerbated by the election and Brexit, collided with a seasonal low for permanent recruitment at Christmas, this improved gradually in January.  A flourish of activity followed in February with a marked increase in job vacancies.

As March begins we have now successfully filled positions in administration, marketing, events, sales and HR. Congratulations to all our new starters!

With the increasing use of social media to network and find jobs it is becoming very important to ensure that your LinkedIn profile is complete with both a suitable picture and key information.

New Recruiter

23 Jun 2015

Whilst Match Recruitment is still firmly focused on recruiting commercial office, marketing and sales staff, we hired a new Recruiter – Susie Marguet in February, who has a background in Technical Engineering recruitment spanning 25 years.

As an experienced Recruitment Consultant Susie is adding value to the business in a number of ways and is also able to offer clients in the technical and scientific engineering sector an additional recruitment service to match their needs. This diversification is proving valuable in securing new business and to date, we have been successful in winning a number of new clients.

Celebrating 25 years in business!

01 Sep 2014

Match Recruitment Services has recently completed 25 years in business!  As we celebrate this achievement, we reflect over the period and how recruitment has changed.

It’s not all Faceless!

10 Mar 2014

It seems that many people find the trend to on-line job seeking quite baffling. The differences between agencies and job boards become blurred and duplications on one job application are common. Candidates often seem reassured when they visit our offices or speak to us in a phone interview. The personal connection is ignited; they can ask questions, get a thorough job briefing, obtain help preparing for an interview or negotiating a salary and have a point of contact throughout the recruitment process.

What Are Recruiters Looking for?

09 Mar 2014

Relevance to the job has got to be the key point. You should be able to demonstrate the requisite experience and should ensure that your covering letter and particularly any profile on your CV is consistent with the job application you are making.

The Match Blog is an eclectic take on the recruitment industry, sometimes lighthearted, sometimes serious, but always informative.
