UK - May 2021

07 May 2021

With lockdown restrictions finally easing, Covid-19 cases and deaths falling and the success of the vaccination programme throughout the UK, it finally feels as though normality is returning.

We have certainly seen an increase in new vacancies and positivity in recruiting for those roles.  Candidates have also appeared more up-beat in terms of their experiences whilst job searching.  Whilst it is undoubtedly still extremely challenging for sectors such as aviation and hospitality it certainly feels as though we are beginning to feel a bounce back.

It will now be interesting to see how new trends develop and how the current home working pattern will affect recruitment.  For example, if partial home working becomes normal it is likely to widen the geographical catchment area of candidates so local hiring firms have access to a wider pool of talent and candidates have more choice.  That said, city firms offering higher pay may attract new recruits who don’t have to commit to a daily commute, away from the local market.
