Compliance Officer - Financial Services

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 + bonus & bens

Job Overview:

A leading insurance company requires a new Compliance Officer to ensure that the company complies with existing regulations and internal policy and to ensure that all new regulatory developments and requirements are incorporated into the company’s policy and procedures across the UK. The position has been created following a restructure and reports to the Company Secretary.  Duties are varied and will require you to take ownership and get involved in key projects and initiatives across the business.  Initial training will be in Kent with options to work partly from home and either in London or Sevenoaks thereafter with some travel to other sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the delivery of the Compliance business plan
  • Undertake and co-ordinate monitoring activities across the business
  • Monitor new regulatory mandates, rules and requirements, ensure that compliance policies are kept up to date and that revisions are disseminated in a timely manner
  • Design and implement compliance training and educational programmes; actively participate in training and induction programmes
  • Provide advice on compliance with applicable laws and regulations to the business, for example, in the form of policies and procedures and ensure appropriate advice in relation to regulatory matters is provided to the business
  • Assess the possible impact of any regulatory development on the operations of the business
  • Provide regulatory assistance with projects as they arise including the implementation and monitoring of the internal systems and controls
  • Review and assist with the sign off of financial promotions and advertising literature
  • Provide advice and guidance on how to maintain compliance within appropriate current FCA, PRA, DPA/GDPR and Financial Crime regulations including Financial Sanction requirements for the UK while ensuring the strategic developments are met
  • Undertake KYC, sanctions and PEP checks
  • Keep up to date on any changes to the regulatory General Insurance rules and regulations and assist with the implementation and providing plain English version of the regulations
  • Conduct compliance monitoring reviews and audits based on the audit schedule; review and follow up as required
  • Assist with the production of management information and compliance reports for regulatory reporting and Board reporting
  • Manage and prepare regulatory submissions
  • Maintain Governance Map and Management Responsibilities
  • Other ad hoc duties as required

About you:

You are likely to have a minimum of 2 years’ similar experience within financial services/insurance.  You should have a good working knowledge of UK compliance and regulatory laws plus knowledge of the FCA and PRA handbooks with particular emphasis on the Senior Managers and Certification Regime. As you will be liaising with all levels of staff you must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, combined with a flair for relationship building. The ability to grasp complex issues and be effective and confident in communicating complex messages, is essential for this role.  You will be capable of developing and applying your specialist knowledge to issues, possess excellent problem solving and analytical skills along with a high attention to detail. A busy schedule with tight deadlines will mean that you must be clear and focussed on achieving targets, working independently or as part of a team. Job Details:

  • Full-time: 37.5 hours pw Monday to Friday
  • Able to work partly from home and part office in London or Sevenoaks
